Vedamela, 2015

A couple of  weeks ago, we had a booth at a festival in downtown Los Angeles called Vedamela. It was the first year they have had this festival and we were happy to be a part of it.

Krsnamayi expertly made our space beautiful and inviting with her expert interior design skills, as she has done at many previous festivals.  Shivananda sena dasa, Champakalata dasi, Bimala dasi and Sudevi mataji all came and helped with the distribution of Srila Gurudeva and Srila Prabhupada’s books and art.

Krsnamayi dasi says, “Vedamela was a very wonderful festival. Usually the first year of festivals are not as populated as years to come, so there were not so many people. Nonetheless, the people there were quite quality. It was amazing to see how our booth had people straggling by, and as soon as Syamarani didi came, it was full of people, books going out, art going out, loving exchanges happening, – and then we would see the pattern again. When she would leave, it would become less dense. Very few people were there on the Sunday, and when Syamarani didi came the booth was a buzz. In fact, the whole room was empty and as soon as she arrived so many people from other areas were drawn to our booth.”

Champakalata didi stated, “Going to the Vedamela was a deeply inspiring experience for me. So many jivas came there because they were searching for real love which has alluded them in this material world. A major highlight for me was seeing Syamarani didi explaining the painting of Srimati Radhika experiencing mana to two girls. One of the girls was becoming more and more affected as she was listening and eventually began to literally weep. Her heart melted hearing Syamarani’s sweet description. I also spoke to this girl and was very touched to see someone become overwhelmed by the words of our Gurudeva.

“Approaching people with Gurudeva’s books brought me back to my old Iskcon days of book distribution. I felt very connected to gurudev. It was like he was patting me on the head and saying ‘go on, go on’. This seva is so nourishing and inspiring and I felt that Prabhupada, Gurudeva and my Guru Maharaja were surely pleased. My guru maharaja, Srila Bhakti Rakshak Sridhara Maharaja used to say that it is our duty to do ‘relief work’ and to help the suffering jivas in their search for Sri Krsna.”
