Dandavat pranama,

Here is my report on book distribution at the Synchro-symposium Music Festival at Rock Falls Park in Slippery Rock, Pennsyvlani on 9/3/17.

The day  began with kirtan led by Devananda pandit dasa of be Vrindavan. For about 45 minutes we chanted the Holy names from the main stage of the music festival. The crowd expressed interest and many participated in the call and response despite it being early on day 3 of a 3 day music festival. One of the most enthusiastic chanters was a young girl of maybe 10 years old who stood right in front of the stage for most of the kirtan. After our segment of the day was a yoga workshop for which we provided background music (more subdued kirtan and a few bhajans). The yoga teacher came over after the book table was set up and took several books (Perfection of Yoga, Way of Love, Bhagavad-gita as it is) and gave a donation. Almost as soon as the table was set up a few people came over and took books. The first woman looked at the table and focused on the only copy of “The Journey of the Soul”. She took that and took a copy of Jaiva-dharma for her husband.

Throughout the day many of Srila Gurudeva’s and Srila Prabhupada’s books found homes with interested spiritual seekers. most of the crowd was hippy folks with impersonalist mindsets and “spiritual”worldviews, but they were sincere and asked many good questions which led to some awesome conversations. One of these was with an herbalist named Odin who was intrigued by the three modes of material nature and prasadam. He was instantly attracted to Lord Nrsimhadeva and took copies of the Fearless Prince, the Higher Taste, and the Essence of the Gita. He had read Bhagavad-gita multiple times but never “as it is” (too bad I only had one copy with me that had already been claimed). Another interesting conversation was with an artist named Edson. For two hours (as the sun set and into full darkness) we discussed various points of the philosophy. when we talked about karma and reincarnation he said he needed to re-evaluate his life. He left with the way of love, the perfection of yoga, on chanting Hare Krsna and one of the Radha -Govinda Mandir flyers with the picture of seva kunja. He was seriously impressed by Syamarani didi’s art and wrote down her name so he could look her up. He said he will probably visit New Vrindavan, and that he was happy to have a lot to think about.

It was a terrific day and many books were distributed. Only a few people gave donations, but everyone I talked to was very nice and very interested. Those who could not donate all promised to read what they took, and many also took mantra cards for the website.
The prasadam lollipops were also a big hit.
Thank you to the GVP Sponsorship Program for the chance to go out and share Srila Gurudeva and Srila Prabhupada with such sincere souls.
