Library Distribution

All glories to Sri Sri Guru and Gauranga.

Last fall, by the mercy of the of the Vaisnavas, I was given the service of distributing donated books to University Libraries across the east coast of the United States while simultaneously distributing books to university students. From the individual book distribution to the university students I was able to collect enough lakshmi to maintain my traveling expenses like gas and food. The books that were given to the library, like Srimad Bhagavad Gita, Jaiva Dharma, and Journey of the Soul, were donated through the IPBYS Outreach program and were the first of their kind to reach the shelves of these east coast universities.

It was a month long of traveling based out of the home of Bhagavati Kanta prabhu, who graciously lent me the family minivan to travel in. It was cold, as the winter weather was quickly approaching. Nights were spent snugged in heavy duty sleeping bag while waking up to cold showers in the early mornings.

The trip was very successful. Books were donated to UNC Chapel Hill, NC State University, Virginia Tech, UNC Charlotte, UNC Greensboro, Eastern Carolina University, UVA Richmond, UVA Charlottesville, James Madison University, George Washington University, American University and more. Two of the more stand out donations were to Duke University that has a highly regarded Divinity School and library, as well as Georgetown University that has one of the most prestigious theosophical libraries in the country with thousands of ancient religious texts, some hundreds of years old.

Another highlight was at Wake University, where renowned global environmental and sustainability activist, Vandana Shiva, gave a presentation. After approaching her with a stack of books, which she denied because she was traveling, somehow it was mercifully arranged by higher powers in the end she walked away with Shiva Tattva.

In each library, I would check also to see if they had any books of Srila Prabhupada Bhaktivedanta Svami. It was great to see sets of Srimad Bhagavatam that had been on the shelves for 20, 30, 40 years. I saw one very early printed MacMillan Bhagavad Gita that was donated in 1972 and had many stamps from students who checked out the book. It would be Agreat to come back again to these libraries after 30-40 years and see the books of Srila Bhaktivedanta Narayana Gosvami Maharaja with many check outs as well.

seroflo inhaler price We have now secured a van for traveling sankirtana in America and will begin this summer. Part of our travels will include visiting as many libraries as possible to give them Srila Gurudeva’s transcendental books. We are in need of funds to prepare our van and also for books for the libraries. AHere is the link to donate:

Jai Shri Krishna! The work that Vandana Shiva does to spread the message of awareness in rejecting completely the agenda of genetically modified seeds pushed aggressively by the likes of monsanto, deserves full recognition and support.

    Congratulations Prabhu,

Glad to see some University book distribution after many years. From one of the devotees that distributed those books to those universities.
