GVP Proofreading Workshop 2014
Please accept our humble pranama.
From March 31 through April 12, some of the GVP proofreaders living in Vrndavana participated in a five day workshop totaling six hours.
The workshop is now in pdf format. It is easy to read and is organized according to topic, with a complete contents page. The workshop contains numerous examples of both correct and incorrect punctuation and grammar usage, questions by proofreaders, twelve simple exercises, and helpful and sometimes humorous quotations from our reference books, listed below. We hope that it will assist not just those who attended the workshop but anyone who is working on presenting in written English Śrīla Gurudeva’s written or spoken words.
We met to review and consolidate knowledge of standard conventions used in Śrīla Gurudeva’s English publications. This included some punctuation, capitalization and grammar rules, typographical styles, and the many aspects of post-layout proofreading. The workshop was based on material taken from our proofreading of GVP drafts and also published GVP books. Our references were 60 Most Common Mistakes of Gauḍīya Editors, The GVP Style Guide, The Chicago Manual of Style, The Modern Writer’s Handbook and Eats, Shoots and Leaves.
We pray to Śrīla Gurudeva that, despite our inadequacies, he continues to engage us in service to his publications.
Aspiring to serve Śrī Guru and the Vaisnavas,
